After a bit of searching seems the Mercury had a perkins A 4 270 the same as a massey 788 ,the starter on the left hand side was the difference that raised my suspicions.

I've zoomed in as much as possible on laptop and it looks like CJR 7988. Left hand side looks like there is a notch in it (on the last digit) makes it more likely to be an 8 rather than a B. Could be dirt coupled with low quality picture

New cheap buy paid 580euro + transport 400euro. engine and gerabox need some work. front axel disconected said it was spining to fast. need new cab interior. No rust all panels is starit, new rear tyres. Maybe I will restor it , i,m not sure right now.

3070 carting slurry with 1600 gallon tanker
Hard to believe that he's farming 120 cattle and around 200 acres with tractors like these, when other are using big new ones for less work

Years ago we had 2 Matadors fitted with The 4/270 that we ran for years . They were indeed brilliant starters. Maintenance wise we had to replace 1 water pump on 1 engine and that was that!
