Collecting some kit from Ireland

I have been looking at the cost of getting a piece of kit from Ireland, to whit, a 3m drill.

Easiest is to use a haulier and get it picked up and dropped off.
Then I thought, hire a 16ft IW flatbed and pop across myself, but the ferry for pickup and trailer is not cheap because of the length!
Lastly, hire a 7.5tonner flatbed and pop across in comfort, again ferry is not cheap, but better than truck and trailer!

However the question is that posed in the 7.5 tonner hire companies blurb!

Can be driven on standard car license obtained prior to 01.01.1997. Licenses obtained after 01.01.1997 require category C1. An operators license would be required for business use. This is not required for a private home removal etc.

This would seem to kill the idea of a hire truck?? I assume a pickup and trailer with a drill would be OK, or would it??

I had similar plans flying round in my mind about getting a piece of kit back last year. Then I came to my senses.
350€ and it was collected from farm there and delivered to me within a week by JP Freight. (00 353 61 396 313)

So everyone was gay!

(How perfectly innocent words get robbed )

It' a less than innocent song altogether. Piccadilly and Leicester Square were notorious red light districts at the time of its writing and Tipperary was a garrison town for the British army, although Tipperary as such is a county.
