My strategy:-
Sell a third forward ( including a bit on the winter pool)
Sell a third at/just after harvest to ease cash flow when you know what your yields are like
Sell the remaineder when all the contracts have been fulfilled and you are looking at an unpriced pile of wheat in the back of the shed

Just have 4 more load to come out this week and that’s the last of the contract. Buyer coming to “assess” heap left and sell it ASAP

We want the cash in the bank and the grain floor swept and airing

I like that idea! Always find it hard estimating what's in the back of a shed so usually end up selling, moving, selling, moving etc. but it can take a while to move it all.

Similar to mine, with wheat. I sell the OSR and beans in a lump as I haven't enough, oats are so volatile that I make my mind up on the day. Wheat is 1t per acre forward 1t any time from May to harvest and then see what's in the shed. I would be prepared to carry a little bit over. I have the space, not sure about the cash flow and haven't had to yet.

Selling forward has it dangers
Sell forward at a reasonable price say 50 %or predicted yield
Then inclement weather makes that 75% and then 25% at higher prices and total income much reduced due to lower yields

Not sell forward then have 100% of harvest at higher prices

Or sell non forward and have ideal weather and 150% higher yield but at a lower price but giving a better than average income

I have come to the conclusion that long term it is better to harvest then know the yield then decide when to sell than sell forward
As my great grand father grand father and father did before the intervention system made selling forward the best option
The last 15 year without Intervention the few high years have trumped selling forward pre harvest risk management

I believe some 100's of pages back you said that farmers who sell for cashflow are idiots and told us to borrow the money

cash flow beyond the harvest year is a bit different - you need a lot of cash behind you to start carrying a harvest ! I doubt many farm business could do that these days unless they had a very understanding bank manager

Can take £190 for milling and £215 for my high protein milling (June delivery cash now) ........................ stick or twist ?

have to say i'm loosing my bottle a bit in this market, weighing up supply and demand is one thing but all this politics stuff seems to be making for some fairly random markets right now

How much better are you hoping for?
Serious question.
Money now, good price, I know what I'd do..

I really think (based on what happens re politics / tariffs etc) that feed wheat could go well north of £200 again this year ...................... I also think if it doesn't then it could go well south of £150 this year

so there could be maybe £50 upside in the market maybe and similar potential downside ????

The rather unusual politics right now are making it a proper flip a coin type decision IMO
