Got barley leftover after malting contracts filled. Got fed up of malting job. They were only paying Ā£130/t for spot loads and rejecting lots. So just cooked it in drier and can sell some for feed if it gets to a decent price.

Another year or worthless contracts .
They seem to play the game better out of central
stores rather than off farm by certain posts on here.

I averaged Ā£172/t on one contract so wouldn't call them worthless

But I would be reluctant to commit a significant tonnage to this type of contract again given quality issues this year. Caused by the weather. Which is obviously out with my control.
 
There is plenty of weathered low n barley around but some may now have been dried at too high a temperature
or the risk of sending it to a malting home is to high at Ā£10 a tonne premium

feed barley now a higher price than malting was at harvest

has much of the contracted In spec barley been used
