Commercial fishing pools&lakes

I know of a few. I'm sure there is a thread here somewhere.

Needs to be fairly near a centre of population and requires significant investment and some good marketing.

Also needs good security from otters and Eastern Europeans.

Not sure on the planning angle.

Would be much cheaper if you can do the groundworks in hand.

Don't just dig a hole and fill it with fish, then expect people to visit.

For it to succeed you need an understanding of fishing and the people who fish. Look for local fisheries, if there are none there will be a reason.

Fishing must be a lucrative business as we have undertaken planning applications for 6 or so fishing lakes within West Kent in the past 18 months.

I fish a spot here in Devon and it's £50 per person for 24 hours. You tend to have to fight for spots, and people tend to book up a year in advance for the summer months.

I'd say they get maybe 5 people a day on average. They've got other lakes too, but I don't fish them much, cheaper and more expensive options.

I've always wanted my own lake.

Would take a bit of investment with a 360 and a chainsaw, tidying the margins and putting proper pegs in.

Then probably electrofishing / netting and re-stocking :scratchhead:

My Grandad started a famous fishing pond on the east coast just after WW2 from a brick yard pit. Still in the family but now owned by my cousins. It has never made any real money. Takes a fair bit keeping out the explosive poachers and you have to be aware of spreading disease ie external keep net ban.The pond works as it has islands in the center which cannot be fished so become breeding grounds for the pond.

fishing is a gold mine if done correctly, the stats for fishing as an industry are awesome, more people fish in the UK than regularly play football! people will pay for, and travel for good fishing!
I'd imagine so, but I also imagine it will take a fair amount of time and money to get there.

This is an example of how it can be done. Very popular and , I guess, one of the most "sucessfull" wet riverside meadows in the South east

£12 a day is steep, but I suppose it is the South East.

Impossible to meet all markets with one pond/lake. An onsite tackle shop is a massive bonus, but needs volume to make it viable.

This is one of the biggest and busiest I've been to.

Winning match weights are regularly over 100lbs, with people travelling fair distances.

They have also hosted a FishO'mania qualifier in the past.

I think it depends what sort of fishing you are doing, I don't think I'd pay that for woodlands.

Woodlands is great if you are wanting some easy fishing and big keepnets full of average fish. They have lots of facilities and it does attract a lot of folk, and their families.

I don't particularly like it much, but I have lots of great memories fishing there. I've been fishing it since the mod 90's, and caught my very first carp there.

I think you could be more cost effective going for a quality fishery, people are always willing to travel for good fishing, and if you get yourself a good name you'll be batting them away with a stick.

This place is a quality fishery, probably the best I've seen personally. It's £50 for a 24hr ticket on their main lake, but if you are only there for a few hours then they normally do you something special.

Fishing is quite tough, but it's rewarding, lots of lumps in there and all in immaculate condition.
