That was with a 20 footer.

To get them to lift square you have to have the falcrom dead centre, they are 8ft tall, but the time the brothers are hooked on you need the height.

Have moved a 40ft with 2 machines before, again fairly hairy.

If you have a good flat yard you would be best to make up some rollers or similar

I have recently put my prices up due to demand. For inside storage I charge £10 a week now. Outside is £7 but only just started that.

Sheds are secured and the entrance is covered by CCTV remotely recorded.

Insurance is their responsibility, they all sign a disclaimer that I accept zero responsibility.

On the whole they are decent folk and have only had one idiot but I kicked him out after 3 months. Some of them been with me for 5 or 6 years now.

The best are the ones who only take their van out once a year, rest of the time it sits there gathering dust and paying me money.
So somebody who takes their van out for a week several times a year do they only pay when it's there, or pay for whole year to keep their slot?

Pay if can is there or not. Over summer I'm half empty but being paid for all slots. I even double let some slots over summer for short term customers who don't want to drag their van back up north if they are coming back for another holiday in Autumn. They are £20 a week.

I've got a 16000 sf shed that could house 24x 40' shipping containers.

Will I need PP if they're under cover ?
How much do the containers cost ?
How heavy are they ( will the Manipoo lift them) ?
How much do people charge for storage per week/ month/ year ?
Do you draw up formal contracts with tenants ?
What happens when plonkers don't pay up ?
What happens when plonkers disappear off the face of the planet, and leave you with their junk ?
What happens when plonkers turn up at 3 o'clock in the morning ?

Is it worth the mither ?

Thoughts please......
TIA.

Yes if the council find out
£1600-2000
No
£15 per week for a 20 footer
No I tell them
big block of concrete dropped off
tuff one, keep a eye on what they're putting in
they wait untill the first person with a key gets to the yard.

up to you

If you go for change of use you will get a visit from your local Valuation Officer who will kindly measure the shed and yard and calculate your business rates. Also watch out for the VAT man as he will want 20%. Do not waste a cup of tea and homemade Victoria sponge on these folk as they cannot be flexed. I suggest you go for caravans as not a big outlay and keep it low profile. Do not advertise in the press, just put a flyer on local caravan sites for a few weeks and then remove them. Be patient and you will fill off recommendations.

Alternative way round the VAT issue - set up a new business under the threshold.

Charging VAT at 20% you'll never make it work against those that don't have to.

I like doing caravan storage not much going on through the winter no noise, clean . watch them reverse , it's funny until you got stuff to do. I don't move them they park them selves. They are very expensive so don't want to be any were near farm stuff. Got couple of 20 ft containers too there ok might get couple more, but don't really like them but there handy if you want extra storage (I guess) .

A fella I know is in his late 60's and has kept every newspaper he has ever bought and stores them all with other junk in a shipping container like that, he goes there every Saturday opens his deck chair up and smoke a cigar. In fact he has just moved across the country so has rented a new container near his new home.

Ive told him to sort the thing out as its not fair on the son having to sort out the hoard when his dad has gone,
He said he once put a few items outside the door free to a good home. but things turned ugly with a mob of people trying to get into his container to see what else was going free, Bit like opening your boot at car boot I guess.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
