I see some one down your way had a load of calf rearing equipment for sale on face book. Looked like they spend a lot of money on that set up to give up after a couple of years.

Do it independently so there is no one setting unrealistic targets where they will dock you at every opportunity and then take a wedge for doing no work. I no several independent rearers who keep expanding as there is such a demand for weaned calves as most people don't want the work. Contracts are a waste of time it's no good working for the benefit of others with all the risk

Doing something else completely? Or just no for buitelaar?

One is rearing for someone else privately the other has got out altogether.

That is a serious set up . We have 2 teat feeders as the only specialist kit for ours!

We had a couple of batches of calves off a well mentioned supplier last year with intention of selling finished B&W bulls back to them. The calves where cheaper than Mart at the time and got them.in batches of 30 which is much better than weeks if Mart visits

We do not have a written contract which I was expecting. I have not got to bottom of wether this is normal or if we were just handy to take surplus calves at the time. We will find out when they are ready to sell in April /May time.

I proceeded on the basis that if they did not take the finished bulls the calves where cheap enough to then sell bulls live weight which, given the current trade, may be better option. We would need to keep them a little longer for live trade as would need to be a little heavier and over 12 months.

Looked hard at Beutellar , we were rearing for ourselves but had a spare Volac feeder . The numbers just didn’t work.... I couldn’t see why you would put your neck in their noose. Way too much control and anyone who has reared calves s!th can and will happen.
Still have three machines if anyone is interested.
