That’s not going to stop street dealers taking as much as they can to sell to the kind of naive punters who aren’t going to know the difference or come back for a refund. If you’re going to grow it near a road, settlement or right of way you’re going to have a bit of crop loss.

Yes, most likely. Although it shouldn't be significant.

Industrial hemp doesn't produce the oily THC-filled flowers that marijuana does. It may be an attraction when its first raised in an area, but you shouldn't worry too much about street dealers. Street dealers like to stay in business too, so I doubt they'll go far in selling something that won't get you high. It's a good rotation crop to have in the toolbox.

What area of the country are you thinking of?

Farmer just letting land out, or growing the crop?

Contractor doing the harvesting?

We are looking at anywhere in the UK, Europe or North America, so location isn't a major factor. You can go down the route of letting land and we can arrange contractors, or you can grow the crop for us. there are a few options and some fine details being worked out at the moment, but if you'd like more details when I have them I can do that for you. PM me an email address and I can include you on the list.

I reckon one needs to be on a very sound financial footing before one starts to try these niche crops, and even then only grow a small hectarage,so one can learn how to grow the crop and harvest the crop

there is actually a fair bit of interest here for industrial hemp, particularly the oil
I planted a trial block of 14 ha for a neighbour this autumn, to trial it on heavy black vertosol soils & flood irrigation

unfortunately, this wasn't really the year for trials, even under irrigation. Apparently it was hit hard with frost at flowering ( a common issue we have here with our cool season crops, with late frosts in spring )

still, I see a lot of potential (y)

This has been a big concern for a lot of folk.

We can offer guarantees from Lloyd's of London, as well as crop insurance. That way no matter what happens you know you will be paid for your crop.

We are also trying to set up specialist finance for it, so that you can grow it for us and not have to spend a penny.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
