"Cooking" a tractor engine

I have been offered, as part of a farm amalgamation a New Holland T5 tractor. Its about 13 yrs old with 5k hours on the clock. Trouble is it has only run a sucker blower and once it got hot and "cooked up" as it was used inside a building according to someone that knows of it. This is some years ago and seems to work fine ever since. Normally I would steer clear of it, however it seems to have no problems. What should I look at to see any visible signs that all is not well? To me it seems fine but who knows

If its 13years old it will be a T5000 series with the NEF 4.5l engine. These are much more tolerant of getting hot than certain green tractors with yellow wheels,if its not losing coolant it should be fine.

Sound more like it’s rad wasn’t cleaned out and she got hot. How hot is anyone’s guess. If the paint is burnt in the block then I’d be concerned but if it’s been run for two years and no loss of fluids then don’t fret. Ask for a demo before you buy it. Run on a plough/ or heavy load of some sort for a few hours and you’ll see if it’s worth buying.

If you are worried get it on a Dyno for an hour. Check out how much the engine breaths. Overheating usually glazes the cylinder bores which in turn make the engine breath heavily. If it's breathing a lot. It's an indicator to if it will need a piston liner kit if the engines wet liner type and can be changed unlike dry which is a block out and rebore.

That info alone might be all you need to know.
