How hypocritical of the one farmer, I think a Mr Steele, who went on about cover crops of clover and £40/ ha being enough payment, to then admit he’d sold his sheep and now worked off farm for the soil association 🤔
I know of the farm as I pass it fairly frequently.. i think you will find the farm lost some acreage of rented ground to a local veg grower, so he has had to adapt to his change in circumstances. I also thought the payment was poor, but he is getting paid for something he has been doing anyway for many years albeit with the flat rate payment. He used to be a vet before coming home to take on the farm.

Yes, I have been there on a farm walk, although it was many years ago now. They were early organic farmers, so would be using clover anyway.

I've also been round over 20 years ago. My lasting memory was wild oat control using a hand held hedge cutter to cut the heads off before maturity. Not sure how successful that was 🤔
