Those animals, through careful management*, taste yummy!

Nor the point of Country file….Does anyone understand the venison piece?
It seemed an utter contradiction to me.
Henson said people are eating less venison during COVID so demand down, thus arable farmers then facing problems with numbers increasing and significantly damaging crops.
Yet the farmer then says demand has exploded in recent years…..and conveniently he owns a restaurant that sells venison!
I couldn’t quite see what the issue was and/or what point the article was making.

but it was a good weather forecastCountryfile - what a load of old rubbish. Is this the best the BBC can do for primetime Sunday night ?
If (when) BBC changes to subscription service, who will pay for their service ?
To be fair they stole the forecast from the farming programmebut it was a good weather forecast
by mid week he said there will be a dry high without frost forecast ..bit unusual but nonetheless perfect for us this time of year.
the Jetstream is to be pushing right up around in its 'best place' it seems

yes come to think of it you are exactly right .... irony at its bestTo be fair they stole the forecast from the farming programme
They buggered it up an odd time I think they deliberately sabotaged it!!!yes come to think of it you are exactly right .... irony at its best
they (deer) can be very dangerous on the roads around here, as you cant see them coming with the taller hedge banks ( see my avatar ) and they jump out, doing often severe and serious damage to the vehicle /driver in the mean timeWhat’s not to understand??
One of the better pieces on there lately I thought, raising awareness of the huge increase in the Fallow herds that are so damaging ( featured farmer a near neighbour and TFF member )
The point, was to raise awareness of the environmental damage Deer do when left unmanaged and to encourage consumers to eat it at hone rather than just a luxury treat on a trip to a restaurant??
The Deer are a huge problem around here…

not so many poaching these days ,Why are the numbers increasing?
Tom Heap seemed to suggest they weren’t being culled because demand for venison was down due to lockdown but I’m not too sure he is correct.

Deer cause many accidents here too, the side of the Main road is littered with Deer Carcase’sFriend of ours was killed some years ago ina collision with a deer, came into the car through the windscreen , broke his neck. Collisions only too common on Cannock Chase.
We gave up some land on the edge of the Chase because the deer herd was getting far too big and causing a huge amount of damage in crops.
Yes, totally correct
When the first lockdown came in, stalking ceased overnight as none of the game dealers would take them as the restaurant’s were shut, populations have increased since and demand seems down at the moment as it’s seen as a luxury Restaurant food rather than a everyday cook at home meat, the point was to encourage it to be eaten as a red meat alternative, eating = demand and a chance to control numbers
These photos are typical on the daily movements on my place…
Yes, that was probably badly edited, demand has increased over the last 5 years but dropped off a cliff in the last 18 months!!Thank you. It confused me that at the end of the piece when in the restaurant kitchen cooking the venison, the farmer stated that demand for venison had exploded in recent years….which seemed to contradict the earlier point that demand was down due to lockdown.
