Creeping thistle or Sow thistle.

I have some ground going into vegetables and also into sunflowers.
The thistles are putting on good growth and everything else was taken out by a Feb Glyphosate application.
I really want to do the thistles properly, roots and all, but not leave potentially crop-damaging chemical residue.
What's good please?

Glyphosate for reasons of following crop safety I think would be best here. I definitely wouldn't go with grazon or similar because of the risk of leaving soil residues that could harm the next crop. I'd be extremely wary of using kyleo if this land is intended for veg or sunflowers.

The use of products with clopyralid or triclopyr here is a classic recipe for a disaster in your veg or sunflowers I would say.

I would use an adjuvant. The glyphosate dose with your knapsack will be pretty stiff, too. The thistles are all about there at the right stage.

I suspect these characters hadn't popped up yet when you first applied glypshoate earlier in the year?

There is a bit of field bindweed too, so possibly something to get it into the waxy leaf? Agree that best addition to Roundup in these situations is usually more Roundup.

Thistles look like a good target but it is hard to get enough killing power into bindweed when they are this small, bearing in mind the extensive underground roots.

Growing veg in perennial weed infested ground is soul-destroying Do you have a cleaner ground to use, and have a good old go to clean this plot this spring?

However if you are going for June or July transplanted crops you will have excellent opportunities for weed control before planting.
