Area near New Cumnock was desperate, never seen an area so deprived ,even the timber on the boarded up houses/shops had been on so long it was rotten

yes but east Ayrshire covers a wide area and there are tremendous dairy units making good money from Kilmarnock across to Mauchline and Ochiltree.

New Cumnock, Cumnock and Auchinleck are mining areas. Prince Charles has invested heavily in these areas through Dumfries House. some of the farms in this area are booming on Co-op contracts.

it’s easy to criticise areas but there are good and bad in every area.

Maybe a Jersey contract with Graham’s but that must be near saturated aswell
Just personal opinion but I think there is going to be a lot of musical chairs between milk companies over the next couple of years and opportunities for new entrants.

Also any dairy company wanting to go net zero will need to have enough land (managed properly) banked through the dairy farmers that supply them. Or they will need to source carbon credits elsewhere.

I think the important thing to remember is that some farmers have a £1M to spend on a dairy farm and some have £5M, some want robots with cows inside all year around, some want cows out grazing on a forage system. This area like Cumbria still has family farms and farmers that milk their own cows. If you don’t like that system don’t come here. Bare silage land where I stay may be cheap to buy but good farms are still in demand and are scarce.

Raith was the last memorable one on the market since Sandyford and Myremill. Other blocks such as Auchincruive would have made a great green field site. Farms like Attiquin not dairying at moment but will return into dairying in the future. Quite a few 200 acre units have sold. Usual private deals too.
