Demolishing Barns

Hi all,

I've got some barns that need to disappear. I know, I know, seems a waste, but they're no longer used and it's the only way I'm going to be able to build the family a new home (one that actually has insulation!).

Asbestos roofing sheets (graded "very low risk"). Plan is to take these down myself with a cherry picker. Hopefully still alive at the end of it. It's one of those jobs that I don't really want to do, but will be glad when I've done it - don't want to have to pay out a small fortune to someone else. Any better ideas?

Then on to the frames.

360 and grab?

What about the steel structure? Is worth exploring the idea that someone would want to come and dismantle it to have it for free? Or rip / pull / push it down and sell as scrap?

Ideas for dealing with all the concrete waste efficiently?

Cheers
Jim

Cost for a professional demo may be a lot less than you think.

recently had to take 3 down as part of a planning swop - was very pleased with the finances behind it!

Interesting. I've just made an assumption here based on other things I've read. I suppose I should get some quotes in. Thanks for sharing your experience.

think i'd get rid of asbestos and convert the buildings into a home.....that concrete span as single story as open plan living space then the taller one behind with mezzanine floor for bedrooms.....kitchen/utility/office/spare beds underneath.....be fantastic
I'd be looking at conversion before demolition. No value once demolished - either in monetary value or planning fallback.
