Hard borehole water here. Every couple of years it goes for the heater element, and we dig out half a barrow of limescale out of the bottom.

Does anyone pour in milkstone remover/descaler to the boiler?

Tried descaler, didn’t work very well, just ended up washing a 1200litre one out with the volume hose. Also switched to mains water for the water heaters

Did use descaling acid but dangerous to add to hot water tank. Installed a pre softener and it’s helped the job considerably. Also requires less chemical in hot wash cycle

We used to be the same. Mains water, super hard, wheel barrow every six months plus heat elements.

Do yourself a financial favour, fit a salt based water softener. Was about £500, 3 years ago, fitted when we installed heat recovery.
