Homefarm, I can't guarantee you'll believe me as you sound like you've made your own mind up about the attendance, assuming we are talking about the Minette meeting last week, I chaired this meeting, it was a West Somerset branch and South molten chumleigh branch event, held in the very heart of exmoor, we had approx 50 members, plus nfu staff, it was a full house with later arrivals having to stand.

Considering how awful the weather was on the night, the turn out was fantastic!
They were talking about the hustings on Monday night, not your fantastically chaired meeting the previous week.
There was about the same number at both, but your venue was more errr....cosy ?

Edit-they all came to see your famous cake eating abilities not Minette speak ?

Ahhh.....I only skimmed over the thread

Haha! I only found time to eat my plate of cake while M spoke! ?

??
Had to dash straight to the food table once all the speakers had finished as the hotel staff were chucking all the food before I'd had sufficient cake! ?
I did see they were clearing it away fast. I saw one bloke with a Tupperware container up the far end shovelling cake into it. Poor guy must be just married or something and needing extra energy ???

It’s not a secret anymore. The President has finally accepted that there is a conflict of interest and has stood down as a member of the RT main Board. She did say that and alternative Office holder would take a place on the Board.
About fecking time,
perhaps they will stick Stuart Roberts in the job as he said he could tell them what to do so perhaps he will have more sense

Thanks for an honest reply of course I believe you. I agree 50 is a good turn out.

However it does prove the point I am getting at that not many members attend meetings today.

It was more than 20 but two branches and many members would have more than one representative present, I am sure the 8yr old and the 80yr old were not the sole representatives of that membership. So around my guess

Locally I find that any meeting NFU ADHB even commercial freebees are attended by mostly by the same people representing perhaps 20 or 30 farms.

Is this OK?
NFU policy made by the few who turn up?
Why not one member one vote?

I and other members travelled over an hour and half 25 miles across country to attend. It wasn't at the most accessible place for many to get to but essentially central for those up on exmoor.

With email, text, magazine, web, social media it isnt like the old days where only a few ever saw the NFU staff let alone the top table team. I have chaired meetings with all 3 of the top team at one time or another, something that wouldn't have happened 30 years ago.

I am not questioning the commitment of the you or other members who turn up for the meeting nor the top team.

I agree 30 years ago organising a one member one vote might have been tricky . Today easy peasy.

Why can't NFU members vote for their leader. Conservatives and labour have both given their members this.
