Sod that for a game of soldier!!! Lifting beet this last couple of years has been enough of a ball ache without fudging about moving sheep, chasing sheep, doing all things sheepy.

Long live the flail topper 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

and thats why there's no money in beet....you lads are lazy.......consider this.....the reason lifting beet is a 'ball ache' is because BS has got you all mesmerised by 'just in time harvesting' meaning you often ignore good lifting conditions cos haulier isn't due

if you've a clamp of 100t i bet you don't loose more than 1% sugar/month.....thats 1t/sugar or 6t beet....£120....this is easily saved feeding tops or going in better conditions....or lifting your own beet

going thru windrowing tops ahead of the harvester and selling the 'tack' for ewe keep should earn you £14/t

flail toppers arn't cheap to run

You know why spin wont put a pic up ,of his ,digger 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm probably the exception to the rule but I lift my own so have full control over when to lift for the best ground conditions and I have a very good haulier who'll come when we want(give or take) and take a few loads if that's all we've lifted, many won't and only want 30 load minimum heaps at a time.

I'm not sure how I could get a modern type harvester to windrow tops that and I'll be buggered if I'm going back to a single row armer.

i know you do:)...grazing in situ would work well on your ground i think(y)....BUT you've got pigs so enough to do......if you don't want an armer you could.....always go back to a standen 😁 😁

i still lurch crisis to crisis.....get depressed about it sometimes.......very different to my arable past
Its just farming breeding stock Spin, the fact that you have to deal with problems instantly (particularly obstetrics) can make small things major sources of stress and worry. I personally don't think I could cope with the carnage of a major lambing.

caught a bitta break (y)....last nights check and all quiet.....was able to go to sleep early safe in the knowledge my wisdom about beet top utilisation had been imparted albeit to an ungrateful audience:rolleyes:......woke at ten to six ....clothes over pjs.....lambing shed....all quiet:love:.......straight to the drill....fettlin....experimented by taking seed pipes out of holders thus converting to broadcast drill;)

drilled an awkward corner which is gonna be a paddock for strawbs.....25kg did acre and half....16kg/ac(y).......back to yard 8:30am and filled drill.....K there to take charge(y)....i'm off drilling(y)......10am admiral comes get me....ewe had one but just head on second showing.....i get there....push head back...get legs forward but head disappears:scratchhead:...in the end i try my left hand and head has slipped down to left:rolleyes:......manipulate out ok(y)....a grateful ewe deposits coupla pints of ectoplasm fluid on my left knee:banghead:

back drilling my trouser slowly dries and an 'aroma' develops just as and ad for home covoid testing just comes on radio:rolleyes: based on the 'loss of smell symptom' i'm completely clear:rolleyes:.....get on well and just headlands by late lunchtime(y)

after lunch pull up headlands and drill(y).....drill off and about to put fert spreader on when i spot hurdler in distress:rolleyes:.....fekkin breach:banghead:.....but comes out ok(y).....a grateful ewe deposits coupla pints of ectoplasmic fluid on my right knee 😭

trousers in wash....me off for bath....bhuna ordered:love:

finally had a little look at new digger handbook at lunchtime:)...'gleeting value customer you make good luck choice johnny boy buying xn08 digger'......i mustn't critiscise cos i couldna write mandarin.....but when i got to 'pump nipple daily with slippy lube' i thought i'd save the rest of the read for another day😁😁

You washed your lambing trousers? 😱

One of the greatest labour saving elements of lambing time is the point from which the trousers stand up by themselves, letting the shepherd leap into them with a single bound in the style of Wallace!
Exactly my thought! What makes spin think tomorrow maybe different?🤔
I actually like the smell of drying ectoplasm. Sweet.😛
Did you wear your pjs all day?😐🙈

Well there’s an eclectic mix of statements...

I think I may have joined an alternative universe with people who ....

A) Bare their torso at passing tractor driving women
B) Like the smell of drying sheep afterbirth
C) Ah So - new digger love you long time if you use plenty lube on nipples -you velly handsome one!
D) Plus, the unheard of situation of actually washing clothes.

The only sanity was the Bhuna...🤗

Happy Easter all..

Spin botly .🤣
