Diesel versus Petrol powered 3 inch Pacer/Fert Pump

Looking at speccing our 16000 litre water/fert bowser with a 3 inch engine Pacer pump. The price difference is over £900 for a Kohler diesel over the Honda engine. Will check with supplier, seems the Kohler is a larger HP. Can the Honda manage with pumping fertiliser or is it at its limit? I see most bowser manufacturers supply them with the Kohlers.

Petrol been fine, must have had 1500 tonnes of fert through it.

The £900 will buy 2 'CHonda' (ie Chinese clone) pacer pumps and still leave a lot of change.

Got one here thats 10 years old with quite a bit of fert related tin worm, but it still starts and runs like it did when it was new.

If your bowser is mounted on a tractor when in use, how about a hydraulicly driven pump? Saves messing around with cans of petrol and a lot quieter. Generally higher output too. We have both hydraulic and petrol and would not go back to petrol.
Also a 3" pacer pump actually still has the internals of a 2" pump, but with an outer housing with 3" holes. A 3" Hypro transfer pump has a higher output than a 3" pacer.

The Kohler diesel will be a Lombardini, right? Small diesels are extremely rare in North America, you'd almost never see a diesel for a pump like this, so nobody would question a Honda pump or have any reason to believe there was an alternative.

We often end up unhooking the bowser in the corner of the field for the onion drill to use, so in this application a hydraulic pump isn't really feasible. I'm neither a fan of these defending engines, although I don't have much choice!
Ah that's interesting, I'll look into Hypro, had good reliability out of the Pacers in the past so that's the reason I was looking at them!

The pacers are very reliable and id zay the Hypro is equally so. Hypros parts are more expensive and availability is not very good though, but I'm told that it is improving.
