Is it possible?
Has anyone on here achieved it with much success?
Thank you in advance

Would a spring cereal work better do you think? It’s possible and works very well with bg control but it’s not easy and you generally get a backward crop going into winter that in April motors on I put this down to 2 years and 6 cuts of silage in our case
What drill are you using? A disc drill into a grass ley in the spring will make a nice job on the day of drilling but in my experience the soil will dry and shrink causing slots to open. That said I’m going to try it again this spring but will destruct grass in jan and let the surface dry so it crumbles.Would a spring cereal work better do you think?
It would be a Simtech aitchison drill. What drill are you using? I’ve no experience with a simtech but guess it would be better in that scenario being a tine. I’m destructing in January to create a gap for frit fly and to enable surface to dry pre drilling as opposed to drilling into nice damp live grass roots that will bind the soil together then it shrinking afterIt would be a Simtech aitchison drill.
So if you destruct the grass in January there would be less risk of the ground drying out for a Mar/Apr sowing of a spring cereal? Compared to taking an early silage cut in April say, and then putting it immediately into spring cereal?
That is what we do, cross about 30 degrees to first passThank you for all the replies.
If you had the choice between the 16 or 20 row Simtech which would you advise?
For drilling grass seed, would it be possible to get away with the 16 row and then just double/cross drill it?
