my thoughts are that the seed firming wheel is just about the 750a's best point

not having one is bonkers, they are not their just to reduce bounce they are there to firm seed into soil as the name suggests

I am thinking of running seed tube exhausts though as it will allow high fan speeds and reduce coulter blocks and further improve seed placement - they are a cheap mod so cant see any downside

Andy - have you seen how the fert is delivered on my drill behind the firming wheel, fins would last about 10acres here I think
Clive, I was going to ask you more about your fert delivery system. Once this set of fins has worn out I doubt I will buy another. If I can make this set last longer all the better.

I agree. I find it really helps seed to soil contact and sort of feel it helps against slugs.

Does a seed need soil contact or does it need humidity and some warmth? A germination test doesn't use soil. This is the argument for the cross slot and simtech seed boot that it creates a microclimate for the seed to grow.

I think the worry with a single disk is the slot is far more likely to dry out, hence the need to have seed to soil contact.
I feel people would be less adverse to the price of the Cross Slot if the inventor wasn't also the MD, he is certainly up there with Michael Horsch as a marketeer. The question is who is on the right track?

Seed to soil contact is critical in very dry conditions. JD press wheel allows a crop to grow in conditions you would think were too dry. Pressing it in allows the seed to get the small amount of moisture available in the soil which is just enough to allow it to grow.
