Disco 4, Volvo XC90 or Skoda Kodiak

We are looking at getting a 7 seater and would be interested in your thoughts on these.
Budget around £25 -£27k which will buy a 15 plate Volvo or Disco with around 45k on the clock or a nearly new Kodiak. Kodiak will be cheaper to run but will probably depreciate more and just isn’t in the same class as the others.
We have a very good independent Land Rover specialist nearby and everyone I speak to says the disco 4’s aren’t as bad for reliability as some people would have you believe. From what I have read the Volvo’s haven’t been faultless but might be a good compromise between the disco and Kodiak.

Can’t wait to see the replies to this,
Ps now run commercial Disco 4, 15 plate, well pleased with it, drives well, pulls well, doesn’t hang about if you want it too, but just keep an eye on Oil level, and change oil regularly.

I would think the depreciation on a Disco 4 would murder them and make them quite cheap second hand but you never know because of the green badge effect. The Volvo is a very very nice car. I'd be struggling to make the same choice if it was me, and I'm well aware of what LR customer service and reliability is like- whereas out local Volvo specialist is a joy to know.

Disco 4 as an all rounder. Had the right engine under the hood. Not on your list I know but If it’s real space the merc gl has a full size boot almost with the 3rd row of seats up. Ugly but practical and 2nd hand prices are pretty good.

Has it done a lot of miles to need brakes and tyres on a young vehicle. What year is it.

Same problem here - so kept my d3 with about 300k on clock and bought the wife an xc60 2wd - fantastic to drive £30 to tax 55 / gallon - disco been with me 6 years cost 3k so far - fuel pump handbrake discs and calipers -just done 550 miles today no problem-so best of both worlds

If you have no wish to tow anything more than two tons and there is enough room in the back seats, there's a lot to be said for the Kodiak. I like it very much.

The Volvo will be an old model probably, although you may find the current model with a 16 plate for that kind of money. I wouldn't personally go for the old model because it only has a six speed auto and very poor steering lock. The latest model needs to be bought from a good Volvo dealer with all the updates done to it and is a superb bit of kit. Again it is not much of a farm towing vehicle.

The Discovery is a different kettle of fish. In a way I love them and they do to 3.5 tons. Make sure you get a Disco4 with the eight speed auto, not the early six speed, because it does make more of a difference than you might imagine. It is potentially far more expensive to run than the others but it is a different kind of vehicle.

Buy what makes you happy and not what you think others will be thinking about you. Confident people with real money don't give a hoot what other people think of their life choices.
