Can anyone tell me anything about the Discovery Sport. Im currently looking for a new, to me, car. Mrs. G likes the look of them, and I’m not adverse to them.
Budget of around twenty to twenty five grand. Needs to be four wheel drive, as I’m aware many are only two. Doesn’t need to be all bells and whistles, but at the same time a few creature comforts would be nice.
Anything to watch out for. Don’t touch with a barge pole because it’s a Landrover. They’re expensive to run. Etc etc.
Im afraid I don’t know a lot about them and don’t know anyone with one.
Thanks for any advice.

Go with a pre 2016 2.2. Avoid the 2.0 Ingenium like the plaque.

Same maintenance items as a Freelander 2- them being gearbox, PTU, haldex, rear diff servicing (LR say sealed for life), poor handbrake and rusty subframes. Make sure you give it a good run regularly as the remote coupled DPF struggles for heat to stay clean in this application. Find a good specialist, dont go near a dealer. Nearly all mechanical parts are available OE through Ford or Volvo which is where most of the running gear comes from.

Good friend of mine bought one for his wife, she loves it, now coming up to 3 years old ............ had a fire in the engine bay at 1 year old which nearly wrote it off but they fixed it for £8K (warranty), I believe as soon as it's 3 years old it will be gone ..... got to love a Land Rover product :cry:

As @Timbo says avoid the early 2.0 diesels , had design flaw where they don’t regen properly and then causes all manor of engine issues. think later ones moved dpf up to the engine bay. Brake squeal. Steering rack issues. Great when it works!

Yes, the facelifted ones, which are out of budget here, have it sorted. Early Ingenium engines in transverse mounts are a total disaster and even in longitudinal versions they had the timing chain [actually chain guide] failures.

The early Ford/Peugeot engine ones had an issue with the rear body seams that lacked sufficient spot welds allegedly, causing some creaks and bangs from the bodyshell from around the rear quarters.

Mrs Blue has an 18 plate Discovery Sport Hi Tec which she has driven for two years now. Has 45 k miles on the clock. One previous owner chopped it into the dealer they bought it from at 22k miles and we bought it from the same dealer. I guess we have been fairly lucky, it has not suffered from the faults that many people report on some of the motoring forums. We do have it serviced every year rather than biannually as recommended by Landrover, Which can be a bit fierce price wise if you go by some of their recommendations, which in my opinion can be a bit unnecessary.
A comfy car. Looks moderately smart. capable of road. manual gearbox, which we have, is vague and notchy. 2.00l diesel ingenium goes ok. fuel consumption ok.
Our particular car is ok at the moment. Its not going to set the world on fire or turn heads but Mrs. Blue likes it which is the main thing.
We don't do long journeys in it but when it does go out its usually a minimum twenty minute trip and not in heavy traffic.
I would suggest that any one buying an early Igenium powered LR Sport, try and buy a dealer serviced vehicle that has been looked after, especially if it has had the oil changed annually.
Are there better vehicles in the same class for similar money? yes I bet there are. Would I get another one? Probably not unless buying new, perhaps we have been lucky up till now.
Above, just my experience and opinion!!

It’s a freelander. Don’t touch out of warranty. Got a unit let to an independent mechanic who is known for LR repairs. Originally it was the freelander and now it’s the sport. There’s literally been hundreds in his unit over the years …… hundreds (actually it probably is in the thousands to be honest). There’s no way I’d ever pay for one of these vehicles ever. He says anything LR is bad news out of warranty and we’ve certainly had our fingers burnt over the years with the brand. I’d be looking at something else if I was you.
