I generally check all the doors before bed as the kids have a habit of going in and out, haven’t got them trained yet.

We don’t tend to draw the curtains and I can often in the evening be found wandering around starkers after stripping off for a shower.

The neighbours haven’t complained yet........but they tend to be sheep.:D
Or got bloody good pair of binocular 's is it?

We always lock up but if they want it they'll get it sadly, so I do wonder how many hours I've wasted locking and unlocking. Sometimes I wonder if we would have had less damage just leaving doors unlocked so people can see we have nothing worth pinching. We haven't replaced the quad bike and power tools as they'd just go again. Everything else is knackered or they'd better bring a can of easy start and a slave battery.

You live in rural Scotland , we live in the metropolis .... which is more dangerous ?
I don't live in rural Scotland, I can see the lights of a city from my living room window.

Its not a matter of danger, you say you don't insure your house, or lock your doors.
If someone takes your keys and you don't have home insurance your have no theft cover for that vehicle.
But more importantly if a family member or visitor is hurt or killed in your home and you don't have insurance, you could have some questions to answer.
