Dog ? on quad .

I have ridden quad bikes on steep and rough hill ground for 33 years.

All the evidence is that wearing a helmet significantly increases the risk of accidents. It impairs both vision and hearing and possibly gives false sens of security.
The evidence from HSE supports this. They recorded that of all serious or fatal quad accidents, something like 30% of riders were wearing helmets and that 70% weren't. So they made the false claim that wearing a helmet was definitely safer.

But my own observations are that no more than 10% of riders wear a helmet, so it appears that they are twice or thrice as likely to have an accident than riders not wearing helmet.

The only time I reckon I should wear a helmet is when I ride through the coconut plantation during the expected ''drop'' season.

I had a Honda big Rex trike fir a decade and survived that in the hills so I’m exempt from needing a helmet on my quad , I’ve actually never seen anyone wear one.
The only person I’ve ever seen wearing a helmet, was an employed shepherd who’d lost his driving licence and didn’t want plod to identify him on the road for 18 months. Full face helmet with tinted visor.?

I haven’t seen many leisure/arable quad users though.
Hse told me they were laughed off building sites years ago when they tried to force them to wear hard hats , 30 years on the hard hat is a badge of honour with them , might come on farms ??? Maybe not who knows, cool looking helmets with built in dab radio all want one ? GAp in the market ?

I’ve got a bit of carpet on the back then a box I made from a bit of spare ply, light steel flat bar bent around the rack and then bolted through the wood. Carpet is right down the over the red plastic and held there by another wee length of steel bolted through. Also got a short chain (from a knackered pto guard) on there to tie a dog onto the bike if needs be.

We've done the same but extended the base around the seat a little more

We like the logic skid lid, comfortable with a woolly hat underneath, the problem with goggles is they steam up when you stop to open a gate for example and if left in the bike box get dirty and scratched. Combine it with a good set of New Zealand waterproofs and heated handlebars and its very toasty, just as warm as our old gator cab but without the hearing damage?

Just back from Australia and their " H and S" have just announced that quads will have to be fitted with roll bars from end of 2021, yes honestly !!
I think it was Honda and Can Am have stated they will pull out of Aus rather than fit roll bars as they think it makes the bike and rider more dangerous and even more deaths. They have had 155 deaths in last 5 years from quad bike accidents.

A big help to getting folk to wear helmets would be a built in clean and dry cubby hole for storing the helmet

Done. What’s your next excuse?

Sorry, no offence intended. Plenty excuses earlier in this thread and mistakenly thought some might have been from yourself.

No worries,
That was my one and only post on helmets.
You are quite right that a dry box on front or back does the job, but my thinking was that if bike manufacturers were serious about helmets then prehaps they would provide some storage to grease the wheels so to say.

I did copy @neilo with this design but works fantastic to incorporate the rappa winder frame., can take it off in 2 seconds, old cubicle mat from a friend.
