demise came possibly because everyone bought foreign ie Hardi  which tbh we did after the Allman got pastit....

mind you weve got Allman and Gem these days so at least tried belatedly.. to support home industry....:cautious:

From Ely?

Googled, Dorman

Yes they appear to have closed & reopened with some of the Dorman people as Team sprayers.

I remember Dad on his David brown 780 with the Dorman on the back it had a picture of a stork on the side. Real smart low ground pressure outfit, did a great job on the pre em. He later had evers & walls & we are now on the 3rd Hardi. So 5 sprayers since 1963.

The Hardi association with E& W began , it seems with them buying, importing / using Hardi pumps in the late fifties.

Then eventualy in about the mid / late 70's ? morphed into E& Wall just being name plate on what was totally a Hardi sprayer ? .....by then perhaps production had stopped , replaced by the import?

Great uncle used to use a 12m trailed dorman, it was kept when we got a 24m Hardi so dad took the booms off and has it as a 3m margin sprayer. I may be wrong but for some reason I think there’s a connection to ransomes, can’t really remember

The Dorman Factory was located in the centre of Ely in Bray's Lane, formerly it was a Jam factory.
After Dorman finished, it was demolished and is now a housing estate called St. Martin's Walk.

Ransome bought Dorman and transferred production to March. When Ransomes ended root machinery production, the March factory was closed and sprayer production ended with it. Some ex-Dorman staff, presumably made redundant from Ransomes took designs ans know-how and founded Team.
