I’m tempted to buy next years N ?

Buy urea futures. They require less barn space.

Actually, the urea futures market is far too illiquid that far ahead. You'd be better off with natural gas instead, as it's the majority of the cost of production of global urea. You can't hedge UK or western European AN because it's a highly imperfect market and there are no market tools to do so anyway.

Some may think rock on a string might be more use...
Your cynicism does you absolutely no credit, teslacoils

Had their new £1.2Bn computer been in operation last autumn instead of the current £0.5Bn computer, it would surely have predicted nil dry days in October rather than 26.

In which case, almost everybody's wheat would have been safely in the ground in September.

An extra 7m tonnes to harvest in 2020 which would have paid for the whole shebang.

Not in Northumberland it wouldnt have been.
with 149mm 2nd week of August that put is all back 2weeks just with harvest for a start.
Most Backend sowing doesnt start much before the 20th of Sept around us as were still finishing harvest off.

Anyways i thought the Met Office services had been dumped by the likes of the BBC they are using some company from Spain now?
Kinda makes a mockery of the info available from your own country surely?

Had 140mm here too in that spell in August, which completely knackered the oat harvest, and got us off to a very bad start with the wheat.

Nevertheless, had we had due warning about October, we might have hired in some extra help, or spent a bit less time in the pub, in September.

That’s just due to price I believe. BBC was forced to use met office, now it can buy forecasting from whoever it chooses.

Tbh a more accurate view of October would probably have stopped more drilling than encouraging it. The few heavy land crops that will make the combine better be praying for good Atlantis action on the BG.

All I would have done differently would be finish ploughing one field, and not sold as much corn.

Maybe not where you are. But anyone drilling wheat here in September, and given the weather since unlikely to have got any autumn chem on, would be looking at a yellow and sad crop, full of bg, with visible wheelings everywhere.

Really, it is write-off city round here. All getting crops in mid September would have done would be increase the loss.

if I had started 4 days earlier I would have got it all in
notill needs planting 2 weeks earlier than cultivated but has reduced weed pressure

note for future with notill ignore all advice from anyone who is still in the cultivated land mind set so that is 95% of advisers and farmers
the yougster was not sure we were doing the right thing drilling in september but now he is certain we were just should have started earlier

I learnt this from 1982 1987 1992 2001 and a few more since then
when the ground is dry deep down then waiting can be considered but when there is drain flow in july and august drill early if it is full of bg plant something else in the spring
