if I had started 4 days earlier I would have got it all in

3 days here.

2 days, in fact, if we'd gone on drilling in the dark, which I always hate with a vengeance unless push comes to shove.

But at the time, having listened so very carefully to all the forecasts for October, we didn't expect to be at all pushed.

You'd have to be pretty sure you had the dreaded bg under control to dd in mid September.
Mid September for fields with non a week later for those with some in the past
first wheat after a break after spring barley is effective Avadex on every crop glyphosate a day before emergence high seed rate
if there is a lot of bg in the break crop then spring crops only for 3 years
heavy cold land that can only be planted in October in dry years

Exactly the same applies here, yellow belly.

It's entirely my own fault that several hundred tons of wheat which should have been harvested here in 2020 now won't be.

And I willingly admit to having, stupidly, been misled by all the forecasters into thinking that October 2019 would be reasonably dry.

Looks like all hope is pinned on March then....

Drive around the "heathy" land and you will see nicely drilled fields. Drop down onto the heavier stuff and you will struggle to see any at all - and fields that have been drilled on the heavy stuff will never make a decent crop.

If you haven’t got black grass, why where you waiting till October?

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
