Drilling progress autumn 2013

Now is the first real opportunity to drill heavy land well following the bulk of the black grass flush.
Looks like a nice week of drying ahead. Maybe get 50ac in next week ;) That would leave me 80ac for spring oats or linseed, and 50ac spring barley as planned.

Couple more dry days and the heavy land will go into fairly mellow seedbeds with hopefully no need for pre ems following double cereal break

Did a bit for a neighbour today with the old Tineseeder, went in ok on main part of field, headlands were difficult, shall we say...

thats what we're finding headlands a problem but drilling them anyway, If it does't come we'll put them in again in the spring, might even rip a couple up drilled 3 weeks ago and drill again now.

Drilling Kielder today at 230kg/ha in to nice seedbeds with tine seeder. If this weather continues could probably even roll it in a few days, or is it best left?

Remember it is December now, and anything but the best seedbeds won't be as good as leaving it until the spring.
It will soon get colder and seed will take a long time to germinate, plus there will be hungry crows waiting.

If you are on heavy land, and you can get it in in reasonable conditions now, wouldn't you get some in though? This is a nice settled spell and spring may be pants. Although I hope it is just average!

I'd be doing the same static, working in blocks and keeping a eye on the weather, if I'm not convinced its gone in well I wont move on to the next field. Going in better now than it was a month ago, all the better land was drilled then and thinking and a few places need a bit of attention now. nothing to say its going to be a good spring.

I'd get it rolled. Long term forecast for December is pretty good I hear, with high pressure in control. So it could well be fine and dry for a few weeks, probably cold though.

I wouldn't say we have dust! But looks like we will be done *and* sprayed up this week. Then sheds empty the week after. And SFP in the bank. And apprentice passed PA1.

Wheat drilled after beet last week is chitted now.
