Drone for checking cattle??

I thinking of this a few times - but I think it will just make you lazy. Perhaps useful for tracking down missing stock but you can't replace the human contact. Live stock husbandry is already not what it should be for the most part. Normally you find something on intuition which technology can't replace and we are after all farmers! go farm. Otherwise sit inside playing farming simulator :)

line of sight only are the rules nowadays I believe.
I believe the US Air Force were flying pilotless drones over Afghanistan, with the "pilot", sitting at the controls in the States.
In a few years time the first generation version will probably be available to the public. Didn't Jeremy Clarkson buy an ex- RAF
Lightning jet fighter, and parked in his garden ??

They've been doing that for about 25 years.

It's generally frowned upon for the public to own weapons of mass destruction, hence why payload drones are somewhat illegal.

It’s possible, just not legal for civilian use. Pilot must keep line of sight of drone at all times is what the law states.

So how do you check for anything slightly off colour, slightly lame, NFE,check udders for summer mastitis, check if water trough is running ok, check minerals, ensure gates and fences are all up and intact.

It's not just about a number check.

Somewhere large like the New Forest or similar where they nearly roam free a drone may be useful to find them but I’d still go and look I think

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
