Drought

We had 42 mm but I suppose it's a bit like when you walk into a pub when you've been working hard in the sun , " 2 pints of your best please barman " the first one doesn't touch the sides !!!!!!!
I suspect it was the same for the wheat " oooh 20 mm of rain , ahhh that was lovely , but same again pls"

So although things are okay at the moment after the warmth this week I wouldn't mind one of those rogue thunderstorms that's going past tomorrow evening
Superb analogy there @Mr Charisma very true of our wheats and spring crops as well last weeks rain has been taken up and gone now i recon. Its also made me quite thirsty lol!

I could do with another inch soon. Wheats in ear, spring barley looks ok and growing fast. Maize at 4 leaf stage.

Grass is slowing in this heat.

I'm surprised how inactive this thread has been recently. We haven't had a lot of rain here and not very much forecast.
same here, but can't do much about it. Got some maize that hasn't chitted after nearly a month in ground, as we seem to miss the heavy showers.

We had as usual a fair bit but it's disappeared now , not sure what to wish for . :scratchhead:

It is very pleasant weather , also a bit cooler than Monaco :D

rain at night, sunny during the day, after you have baled your hay of course.
don't want a thunderstorm on my barley either. some has been flattened already in south shrops

When in the past that's happened here, Arthur Living, as it has rather more than one cares to remember, secondary tillering after good rain has always immediately become the next problem.

Does anyone know if there's a soil type and/or varietal variation to this?
Guess new tillers could be a problem but doesn't seem to be much activity. The variety is explorer, The advice is not to drill before mid march but earlier drilled varieties around here seem more lush. Very mixed soil types here from white clay to black sand within yards. The more medium type seems worst affected.
