Grim, had another price cut on mediums down to seconds today.
With respect, upland farmers who can’t get their lambs off early had poor lamb prices last year, the beef job is pretty poor, eggs seem to be pressured, pigs struggling,so nothing seems to be going the right way.

The only ones who are obvious by their absence are dairy farmers who seem to be raking it in once more.:shifty:

Is it just the eternal excuse.....B..x.t?

Thing is, free range eggs was supposed to be the in thing. THE diversification project. The one bright thing on the horizon. Agriculture's great savior, according to the farming connect gurus....
Might just as well bought 100 acres with the £ 1 million, and been content with earning £20k per year off it. And sell it on again when it goes pear shaped. What would you get for 10 year old poultry equipment and a chicken shed ? f**k all.

I think your right. Anybody going into poultry of any kind today must be mad. Already established business's will ride the storm out as they'll be well into repaying the initial investment off, but borrowing today for a new set up does not make sense.

Someone I know in mid Wales has had hens in their new free range 32000 set up for about 6 months.

This was a sheep only farm and never done anything with hens.

They seem to have had teething problems.

I wouldn’t like to have committed like they have.

Here's our problem, retailers are flogging free range large for a heavily loss making price.

Meanwhile I needed a drink this afternoon and picked up the only can of lemonade the garage had on offer, it was £1.79. It was also disgusting, a sugar free version which seemed to just be lemon zest and fizzy water. I'd assumed it was the regular stuff.

Egg / chicken sheds going in for planning and being built flat out in mid wales they say from start of planning to the finished job looking at £1.5 million

Don't know much about the job but was talking to one man he couldn't get a contact so he sell his egg by the weight they take every thing don't think the prices is that great the eggs go into the food chain cakes etc
