Signed up to what is now very expensive electricity contract and just wondering if there is a way out ?
What happens if I cancel the DD and wait to be cut off.
Could use a genny whilst waiting for a new supplier.
Could even use a genny with current supply, sure it would be cheaper !

Read up on your current contract. Likely be an exit fee. This is the way to go than stopping the DD.

When I renewed mine, I was told that the contract was with my business. If I was to close the business and/or move, then the contract would finish. Bit extreme perhaps.

However, a contract is a contract. If they stopped supplying you because the price had gone the other way, would you be happy about it?

Drax/Opus tried that with us. I wrote to the CEO. They backed down.

Don’t cancel your DD, that would only result in bad things beyond your electricity price problem. If it’s a fixed price contract you’re a bit knackered. They could let you go but ask you to pay the rest of the contract up front. They have bought the electricity forward after all, and so they have a liability in the market place, you can’t just walk away. Both parties signed the contract willingly so you're just gonna have to suck it up. That’s business and that’s life. You’re not the only one, not by a long chalk.

@80p kw I think I would be trying to work out how to wriggle out of it. Plenty brokers/suppliers of went out business and left buyers to sign up to expensive electric contracts

Signed up similar but also invested in solar. How much extra is it going to cost over the contract, its the deal we did at the time like anything else. Prices can still go back up.

Thanks for the replys, i've already looked at the termination fee. Its heafty, i'll just have to do the math and see if its worthwile.
My contract started on the 1st Oct 22 and the first payment went out on 1st Jun 23 for the whole lot which was quite a hit. I'm looking into wriggle room on this basis. See what happens.

I'm now looking at keeping the supply but using a generator depending on load.
Might consider battery storage.
Does anyone have figures for self generation I.e fuel use/running costs per Kw. Not too bothered about genny capital because I've been wanting a stand by system for a while. Four power cuts in last 18 months. All we have is a Lister hand crank ,absolute pig to start in winter !

I have phoned and sent emails to have three different meters removed/disconnected at different times at different premises over the last year. Two of them were not under contract.

EDF briefly pretended they were going to last year but in reality ignored the request.
Drax ignored the request.
Eon have so far ignored requests.

All of the meters were and are no longer in use.

The invoices keep coming regardless.
There must be more solicitors than meter technicians.
Oh the joys of not being a commercial landlord anymore.

You'll still have the standing charge to contend with.

Disconnect the meter so it’s not being used and get a new connection or use your generator. Then sit and wait for them to arrive to read the meter.
