Hello I'm,
Arran From A.L Electric Fencing.
We repair all types of units as mentioned above they are fully refurbished as part of the package.
Unlike other companies we have a set charge of £65. This includes everything, even a courier who comes to collect the unit & bring it back.It includes a 1 Year Warranty, unlike other companies that offer 6 Months. Most manufacturers repair units but they don't offer a 1 Year Warranty neither do they refurbish the unit. We fit brand new leads & crocodile clips also. Some companies offer a price structure for repairs starting at around £70, This does not include a 1 Year Warranty, Postage or The Refurbishment.

This may be in the wrong section but does anyone know anything about repairing electric fence energisers?

We have a mains unit that is quite a few years old, it's still putting out a charge but instead of a pulse every 2 seconds or so it seems intent on at least halving this. I assume this means it is putting out a lower voltage as a result (last time I tested the fence it had plenty of undergrowth on it and I didn't test from near the lead out cable) and would like to repair it or get it fixed.

There is an ad in the FG for someone that repairs them, anyone used them or experience of repairing units themselves? There can't be much that can be at fault in there can there?

Buy a new one and sell your old energiser on EBay. Some horsey folk will buy it and you get your money back.

Hi Aaron. Do you repair all makes and models of fencer i.e hotline Rutland etc.

New Energisers are all generally made abroad now, most components are sealed within a resin block , meaning the unit cannot be repaired & is a throw away product. Some contain a Microchips that's not available to purchase as spares. Older Energisers are generally British Made & can always be repaired. Buying a new Energiser is false economy .

Usually the module ,a lot of manufacturer's supply service exchange modules.Gallagher ones usually clip in.

Unfortunately a new module costs roughly around £50 upwards. Our £65 (all in service) insures the unit is 100% working & comes back looking like new with a 1 Year Warranty. It Even includes a courier service that will come & collect it from your door & bring it back. I really cant understand why people would mess about fitting new modules them self. Most Rutland Modules start at around £57 RRP

He fixed one of ours last year.As far as I remember it was a reasonable price. Have seen him in Bakewell market but don't know if he goes every week.

Before you do anything, take the cover off, give it a good spray with WD40 and then test again. It can be just a connection so check for loose wires. I have had chargers come back from the dead thanks to the odd week and a good spray. Worth 10 minutes of your time.

Never spray circuit boards with WD40 , it conducts electricity & can cause more damage than good. There is lots of high voltage on these types of circuits & can cause a hole heap of problems.

i have found rutland very good to deal with when it comes to spares. and at 65 is far to expensive to repair for most units bar the big big mains ones

People do not realize whats inside a Energiser there's Generally 3 components, The Circuit Board, Transformer & Capacitors. If you buy a Circuit Board & it turns out its the Capacitor that's faulty, that's then another cost & a few days lost waiting for it to arrive. Rutlands Repair costs are structured compared to the type of unit. They start from £72 if i'm not mistaken, the warranty they provide is 6 Months & Not 12 like ours. Postage is chargeable unlike our included courier service. A good quality Energiser costs around £120. Therefore we do not fell that £65 is expensive considering that the Energiser comes back looking as new & with a 1 Year Warranty.
