Entrance splays dimensions for longest artic trucks.

I am after some practical splay measurement suggestions for the following situation.
To gain access for timber trucks to collect cordwood that will be felled shortly, the entrance to the wood needs to be significantly enlarged to allow timber trucks to reverse along the new hardcore track, to be able to load the cordwood that will be stacked along side it.
The trucks will need a “ splay width” that will allow them to reverse in off a country lane that is only 3.5 mtr wide max, with banks either side of the country lane , so a lot room needs to be made .
Any suggestions input would be appreciated.
Perhaps @renewablejohn may have some suggestions if he runs a timber truck.

We used this one for a farm entrance. it's big enough but onto a single track road with a narrow bridge to one side it's only just. go plenty big enough, you'll not regret it

Thanks for the post. As you say one has to get these sort of projects right first time , to try and avoid NEW, fencing /gate posts being bent due to lack of area for trucks to manoeuvre.
I guess many wood land access gates were put in before any artics existed yet alone 40+ ft long one’s!!!

Most probably.
What's existing like?
If currently 9ft gate you most likely got a bit to do as if active growing,bird nesting season , in conservation area hedge then not easy possibly?

we had a civils contractor do it for us, you've to get permission from local roads department and there's a spec that they ask for, ie, first however many meters must be a bound surface like tar, it must run back onto your land do your not putting water onto the public road etc.

It’s what I am going to use for our place but off a 16’ road and on to a 4m wide lane but remember the sight lines need to be bigger for agriculture machinery due to cab position.

timber lorry’s are 38’ 40’ generally it lots of movement for a short time then nothing for 8 years

How much extra does one allow for drivers that are less proficient at reversing? The timber guys will be pretty good, but the splay to reverse off the narrow lane needs a decent margin over one to drive onto it.

I had to do a 12m bell mouth but 24 m splays for an entrance. Splays are just visibility. Just widen what you have and hope you don't need planning.

It'll never be enough. Like marking of a grass verge always a driver has to get right into it!
