What have they done to sell my livestock? Had a look on there for the first time in a while the other day and it was terrible. Search was next to useless.

Hi Tim, if you could give me any more info about what was going wrong in search then I will report the problem to our developers.

Currently we are launching the latest site version, where the search is considerably improved, which should rectify most issues but it's be great if you could give me more details to make sure this problem gets resolved.

Pees me off royally that everytime I go on FB I see a sponsored ad from Sell My Livestock @SellMyLivestock

AND they are now ramping up things:

Pay £6 to get a premium service; POA, early viewing of ads with contact etc

Our facebook targeting targets farmers in the UK, we can't really do anything about it, but if you don't want to see our posts, you can hide them quite easily.

As said above, our basic system is still free as it always will be.

The problem I found (and I think this was with the new version) was that if I search for a particular breed of animal, I had to look through each category ie stores, bulls, cows etc. Before if I wanted to search for 'Longhorns' all animals showed up in one go. Does this make sense?

Thanks.

I understand the point you're making. It's still a bit rich how FB are targeting bona fide users who happen to be farmers and in my case want to network with like minded breeders with rare gentic resourced livestock. The bots even pull down posts where I've said "lambs from xx that will be weaned and available for sale in the future". It's not actually a sale it's showing the genetics of a flock. The appeal (you can't interface with a human just click on appeal goes round in a circle thee times and forces you to accept their T&C's (even if it's not relevant)

Meanwhile millions of "animal lovers" continue with obese feeding regimes or getting their little tricky woo to dance on it's back legs for human mis-placed amusement

Your new premium service; I can see why you'd start down that track but it's darned annoying

I have got used to your search filters now

I still remain amazed how many pedigree consignors are not in a health scheme ........

The TB status with a map is confusing. A consignor should have to state which testing category the stock for sale fall within

You can still search this way Tim. Go to filters. Select cattle (I do otherwise I get Sussex or Galloway as a sales region). You can select on breed and get every gender status

Ah yes I understand you. Previously we had trouble with people searching for one or the other but getting too many irrelevant adverts. Particularly bad for dairy where you'd be looking for females but get lots of store bulls and calves. I have sent a report to the developer asking for an override so you can select both categories or there's a tick button for 'all' so hopefully that should be resolved quite easily.

For the now you can search by breed in both store and breeding section.

If you get any more problems feel free to send them over, luckily for us all our development is in house so we can fix things quite quickly once it's reported.

You can search this way for now, but when we go fully onto the new site next week it won't work the same.
Hopefully the report i've just sent will get resolved quickly and fix the issue so you can see both categories at once, because at the moment you 'have' to select a category.

Thanks.

I know what you are saying, we too are being impacted by their crackdown on animals sales (fuelled by PETA buying shares in the company). Because we are advertising sales through the website and not directly on to facebook (i.e our sales are off platform, we are advertising a web link) this seems to be how we are avoiding page closure.
We have said to our users that they can take advantage of the loophole because facebook seems to be allowing 'share' of their adverts onto facebook. This shows a link preview and then you need to add your pictures to the post (or it will show our link preview which is a random dairy cow picture).
This doesn't help when you're wanting to 'show the genetics of a flock' but alternatively (I think) you can upload pictures with writing on pretty safely, which is a bit of a pain but one way for you to do it.

Yes I agree with what you've said regarding dogs- can't do anything about that one though! Ditto pedigree health schemes, though we are seeing an increase in people giving health details and we are trying out best to make it as simple as possible and encourage people to share that info with us.

The problem we had with asking for TB regions was that obviously in the year 1 areas, it changes a lot as herds go down and we would be reliant on farmers regularly updating that information. Herds in risk areas who were clear are also a bit more reluctant to put on their adverts they are in high risk areas. We included the map because it uses APHA data regarding tb breakdowns. Basically it allows people to see for themselves the number of breakdowns in the area, so if someone hasn't included any info you can make some sort of assessment of it yourself. Basically we are trying to make the process of buying stock as transparent as possible. It isn't perfect I know.

Just imagine that whilst your advert might contain a huge amount of information, many adverts don't! What we don't want to do is irritate buyers who wouldn't buy from risk areas, who are enquiring on adverts with no/outdated TB information for them to be told the herd is down or is in a risk area. Then we get complaints that we are wasting time, which is the opposite of what the website is designed to do!

Finally, for the last 5 years people have asked us how we make our money, now we have grown to a significant user base, in order to support all the development, new products and everything else we do we are monetising elements of the site. As I said the basic buying and selling is always free, sorry you find it annoying, but there has to be big benefits to subscribing in order to get people signing up!

Hope this explains it. If you are having any problems we can help with, we can usually get them fixed pretty sharp and we do appreciate both good and bad feedback!
