Farm Electricity Renewal

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody had been automatically entered into an electricity contract by a broker.
We have just been entered into a contract. They said they sent notification by email but we didn't receive anything

They said we cant get out of it as we didn't opt out of the emails they supposedly sent.

We had something similar, I received the email ,forgot to reply but did not end up with contract.
With hindsight the price was quite good. There was £5k in the deal for them, no wonder they're keen.

Bionic. Buggers caught me!
Lucky only farm house. I did a lot of ranting down the phone but couldn’t get out of it.
Under bionics guarantee they have to hand over their commission. I’m going to put it towards solar panels and wipe out any electric usage.

These contracts are for three years and they have sent some forms through on the email, which have my wife's signature on, only its not her signature.
You should be outraged at such behaviour. "We sent you an email" is pathetic. Imagine them trying that on with someone in their 80s, I bet they’d shrink away at the first mention of going to the newspapers.

It’s one thing you defaulting on to a variable contract but another thing entirely for them to sign YOU up to a fixed term contract WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. I’d be straight onto them and threaten them with Ofgem.

Had bother with bionic. Against my better judgement let them sort a renewal. Gave the old company the wrong end date. The new company the wrong start date. I realised something was wrong. No response from email or phone calls. Had to sort it myself and told them to bugger off. Avoid them, don't do anything you can't do yourself

It is Bionic yes. They are disgraceful and just arent interested. What do you mean they have to hand over their commission?

How do i get rid of them? EDF says we have to sort it with Bionic and they dont want to know.

I agree, just dont know how to cancel it all. Our current contracts dont end until September next year.

This is from email where the said they are unable to cancel the new contract starting August 2024

Nonetheless, as you are unhappy with the agreement made, we are willing to offer you our commission on the contract through our Make It Easy guarantee. This would be a lump sum deposited into your chosen bank account upon the renewal contract going live in August. I hope you will consider this offer as some additional reassurance of our confidence in the deals provided.

It's not really a new trick.

Back when the gov decided to free up the market instead of being tied to your local supplier, it was rife.

Chap turns up one day asking how much are you paying, told him that's my business if he wanted to quote he could though.

We were paying 7.5p to 8p per unit to YEB (tells you how long ago) depending on the time of year + variable demand charges in the colder months.

He came up with 5p to 5.5p with more or less the same demand charges with Npower, checked with YEB and they couldn't match the price, so I told him to make the change for us, the next bill that came arrived from a completely different supplier, can't remember the name but I know from the papers some people were having problems with them, tried to contact the name on the card the guy left, number no longer recognised.

Then contacted YEB to see about going back to them, they offered 4.75p to 5.25p, when I asked why they couldn't match first time, he said gov rules said couldn't do that with an existing customer and I was now effectively a new customer, and the guy was a broker who went round offering our custom and trying to get the best price plus a bonus for himself and likely was now operating under a new number to avoid any hassle.

I never signed anything at the time, so guess he put a false signature on the contract.

Not long after Npower took YEB over.

I would write to Bionic’s CEO explaining how your wife’s signature has been forged. If I didn’t get immediately released I would inform that same CEO that you were writing to EDF’s CEO, explaining how Bionic had forged the signature and that you would then be writing to Ofgem if EDF didn‘t react accordingly. Remain polite but business-like and forthright.

That should produce the necessary sphincter tightening. Don’t pee about with call centres or reps whatever you do.

One way out of a contract you could try if you have a single meter for the house and farm is have them separated to 2 meters to do this you need another mpan which will be shipperless then get a new contract and power the whole lot from that.

Yes, I was lumbered with a contract from a broker that had changed its name [from Make it Cheaper to Bionic] and whose single email landed in the trash. Next thing I knew I had a welcome email from BG-Lite with a ludicrously high contract price for an equally ridiculous three years.
I was on that contract for nine months and have only been able to get out of it now, this month, using another broker who guaranteed that he could transfer the contract, and amazingly they did. Still with BG Lite but now at way less than half the original rate.
Several people and brokers had tried before and BG didn’t want to know. I’m still paying over the odds at 24p day and night, but I can’t tell you what a relief it is to be out of a 64 day and 42 night rate. The standing charge is about the same at low 30’s but that is a trifling in the scheme of things. The new contract is for two years.

Avoid Bionic like the plague in my opinion. Scum!

BG contract ends late Jan
What a bloody pain trying to get other quotes.
emailed eon. please ring this number, sorry it`s a half hourly supply, email this addrees - no response
Octapus on line sorry we can not quote for supply
EDF phoned, Very pleasant lady sorry I can not quote, will transfer you, after a pause , sorry we have no agents available to answer your call.
Rang BG, they used to have better rates if you called from what was in the renewal letter, now exactly the same.
Looked at Compare the market, bloody bionic are involved.

I suspect it is unlikely you will get much joy before the New Year, one trick with speaking to the Utilities is ring early in the morning between 8 and 9 often a call will gl straight through. The biggest issue is getting routed too the right person.
However I would advise using a buying group to get the best price, either someone like AF or the NFU
