Fencing grants in wales

Can anyone confirm if there are any grants for sheep fencing 60 acres of reasonable grass please?

The last lot we did was in Tir Goffal some 20 yrs ago and it’s a bit ropey now

Not as far as I’m aware. :( All of the enviro schemes that had options covering fencing are in limbo, just being extended a year at a time, but without the ability to add any further ‘capital’ jobs.

As Neilo said above we are in a constant state of limbo regarding any grants in Wales. There are no grants for capital works currently available. If their were any they would be chronically under funded given the current cost of materials.

just over a year ago, I laid a hedge and fenced with a grant, can't remember if it was Glastir Pollinators, however the grant covered probably less than half the cost, but I did think it covered the difference between just fencing and tree shearing off the overgrown hedge.

There’s a lot of money swilling around in Cardiff Bay , from unclaimed grants. Hopefully see some of it re offered for something meaningful and at a decent rate.

Situation now where land is going downhill, cost to refence is unviable so can’t graze.

Meanwhile reeds are getting a hold.

What to do!?
Time to rent it to someone you know who with a few years security of tenure will take it in hand. If you can't afford to manage it yourself it's value will be dropping.

Better off do do a bit at a time yourself than bother with the grants I think. Double fences 3 metres apart is criminal work.

All I’ve done has had to be a metre from the centre of the hedge (so 2m total), but if you use HT8-22-80 wire then sheep will still graze a metre of that fences off bit. ;)

I did hear about one fella that was picked up at inspection for having the fences too close together. He went round and pulled all the stakes out at an angle so that they were 2m apart at the top.. 😂

I'd forget the idea. Creo posts are up 30% and predicted to rise again and wire is 20% this week That's new increase on top of the 30+% materials went up over Brexit/covid.

Unless glastir small grants opens up another round and your successful to get the grant the answer is no as far as I'm aware. Well unless you want to plant it all into trees.

Best bet is to wait till a new scheme is introduced. Could be a few years yet though.

Hasvany one actually looked into this tree planting malarkey with Glastir? I can’t see it making any economical or financial benefit on 2ha patches!!!!

Got one mate that's looked into it and another that just went ahead with it. At the current rates, probably calculated 15+ years ago, its a non starter.

We put a bit in 15 yrs ago.

Trouble with bits here and there is they become totally unviable to manage, haulage cost for a days work doesn’t stack up.

Same old story, impracticle unknowledgeable folk making rules

Either we’re interperating it wrong or calculator is brocken but might aswell rent it out on 11months grazing. It’s not like you can plant the side of a mountain or some rush covered wetland which would sense!!
