Field record software

Hi all,
We've been quietly working on a new app at fieldmargin - a simple note taking app to replace your notepad. You'll be able to take geolocated notes, record points/lines/areas and have multiple users on your farm. It works without a phone signal or internet connection so you can use it out in the field, and better still, it's completely free!

We'll be moving really quickly to release new features based on what you guys will find most useful once the app is released in August. If you have an iPhone and want to be the first to know when it's out, pop a message to me or our CEO @RobFM - we're building an Android and web version that will be out later this year.

Any comments/questions/feedback welcomed!

Hi dear friends,
My name is Marc or Marco, we designed this application for farmers to help keep your field and crop data in a clean and friendly environment?, After many years of testing and leaving complicated Ag software, we decide to create our own. This is what it looks like.
Our intention for 2017 is to obtain comment from you guys and improve it by adding 3 major components:
1- Powerful custom weather tool base on your field boundary
2- Link AgriXP to online price for better decision
3- Grain storage deliveries and reception.

Video preview here:

AgriXP is a platform designed by farmers and their crop consultants to track field data. This platform allows the farmer, the employees and authorized crop advisors to log all field activities.
AgriXP is free of charge forever for small and medium size farmer. Give a try!!

This looks too good to be true. Can I ask how you are earning from it please?

I'm still trying to find a simple farm record software system that isn't:

A. Glitchy
B. So complicated that I need to go on a course.
C. Less than £500.
D. Secure

I've pretty much tried everything now, and I'm on the cusp of going back to notebook and pen!!

I use gatekeeper, no longer pay the subscriptions and just use it as a base for my recommendations. Print them off and fill them in by pen. And store in a box. Simple..

I have tried computerising the whole process, and it was a pain.

What do you want it for ?
Approximate crop gross margins?
Accurate crop gross margins?
SFP / NVZ compliant records ?

I am trying muddy boots greenlight grower at the moment. So far I am quite happy with it, I was using cropwalker before so it was easy to setup on the new system. it is easy to use, I like the web based interface and that does work on my android phone when I have reception. Chemical applications are easy to apply and I have not had issues getting the right MAPP numbers yet which did happen with cropwalker. planting crops is easy other than there is not yet a place to put the seed lot number I have just been entering that in the notes column.

There are issues with the fertilizer side, this is not fully functional you can put on bag fertilizer entries but not manures/ slurries yet. There is no compatibility with PLANET or MANNER, there is no NVZ recording. If you have cropwalker you can still do the calculations but it wont sync over. I have been assured that NVZ compliance is on its way and the fert applications dont sync because it was going to be better to start again.

The app for offline entries works well but it is only available on ios and an android version is not being built at the moment.

There is no gross margin info yet.

Muddy boots have been extremely open with me and they appreciate that the system is not ready for everybody's needs they have more on its way. There is a button on each page you can click and enter any ideas/improvements you come up with. These are listed and those with the most votes will be considered/added.

I have seriously looked at the other competition and I do think Greenlight has enough potential for me to consider but it is not there yet. The rest are either too big old and expensive or not compliant with the legislation I need.

Hello Badshot,
Our business model is to provide free access forever to farmers with 2 or less farm accounts (one farm account can contain unlimited farms and fields), it is the case for most farmer. All agronomists, crop consultants, and sale representative using our app to manage 3 or more farmer accounts have to go Pro and they is a fee for that ( custom pesticide, manure spreading companies, multi field scooting, ....)
Any specific question, you can contact me in private if you want

Hi Marco, and welcome to the forum.:)

I had a dabble with your program earlier, whilst pretending to do some paperwork. At first glance, it looks pretty simple and flexible. I'll try to have another go with it soon, when I need distracting again.

One small/minor thing so far though, is it possible to enter longer field ID's? We all tend to have smaller fields over here, and generally ID them with names. I notice your program only allows relatively short identifiers, so names like 'Long Meadow' or 'Over Yonder Hill' (just examples) don't fit.

Same for me and couldn't figure out how to view individual fields at a later date. I.e. How can I look at Long M(eadow but the name won't fit) to see how much spray it had.

Hi Neilo,

Thanks for the good words. We appreciate your comment. :)

We are receiving too many exciting comments and we are very glad and have already started to integrate them.

Remember our mission. AgriXP was designed to allow each farmer regardless his computer knowledge to be able to create his farm, create at least 30 fields, add crops and inputs in less than 10 MINUTES. Our focus group of 10 farmers reached that basic step with ZERO-training.

For the field ID, we previously allowed 15 digits but was forced to reduce to 6 and add a field called “Note” for longer name up to 15 characters ( see capture). This is for 2 reasons:

1-The map won’t display properly as you see on the capture.

2- AgriXP is responsive to mobile devices, longer field ID was causing farmer to lose the focus.
Let me know if this way is acceptable for you.

Thanks again and stay connected, more exiting features to come.

Marco.

Hello Kidds.
See my previous post for field ID.
To see your spray details, just navigate to Menu->Crop List and select the field you want to see details and all inputs and activities will be loaded in the box below with user info who recorded the activity. To edit a line, use the Action button at the end of each row.
See capture. You can use online chat for help.

My agronomist and I both currently use gatekeeper.
He generates a recommendation, it gets sent to me I import it, then send it to the app so I can use it on my phone. this allows me to fill it in as I go.

Can this be done with AgriXP?

Hello Badshot,
AgriXP and gatekeeper have different approaches. AgriXP is aiming to be cost and time effective for small and medium farmers (zero-training, free). It doesn't has all the plugins to manage the entire farm. The agronomist and the farmer can still work together through AgriXP, but the farmer remains the master of his farm.
Thanks for asking.

Hi again and happy new year.
There we go for 2017. Based on your comments this is what was added to www.agrixp.com
-Field name moved from 6 to 8 digits
-Your data can now be exported or transferred to any software of your choice: Pdf, Excel, printing.
-Farm weather center: Forecast 7 days, hour by hour linked to your farm plan.
-Draw at least one field to begin accumulating your farm history: Rainfall, Crop Heat units(CHU), Growing Degree days(GDD) and preview them on the calendar.

Get a try and let us know.

I'm having a play around with your software.
The gross area of a field is often larger than the cropped area.
How can I record both areas for a field?
ie field a is 20 acres but 18 is cropped due to drains fences etc.
