As above how many flakes per bale are people trying to get on a 2.4 m straw bale .

Does it matter? Surely you are trying to bale to a weight rather than anything?

I was getting 20 in a bale trying to beat the rain but you get a bit of length variation especially in barley straw.
Usually aim for 26-30. NH 890

Any less than 30 looks a stroke bale which generally means it is a stroke bale…

Thursday in wheat straw at 9kmh 20 to 24 flakes Friday same field 9 kmh 28 to 30 flakes same length and same plunger force . MF 2150. Straw slightly damper on friday after a night shower . ?

I aim for 30 too. You'll be able to go much quicker at 30 per able!

Think they come up here to retire!

Was speaking to big bale mechanic last week and he said a lot of farmers up here have bought knackered ones thinking they'll save a lot not paying a contractor.

Many of them need a lot of money spent on them with knackered crank bearings etc.

Do you run any?

Yeah they're getting more and more common, I think the amount of straw that gets sold out of Aberdeenshire now has upped they're popularity , hauliers seem to prefer them.
