I'd say round here your average size flock would be at least 800 not including hobby farmers.

Lots of hill boys (900-2000) and lowland boys with 500-1000 cross ewes.

Would say bigger flock more risk of deaths

Not always, most of them know what their doing as they wouldn't have been able to get to that scale... the signs that something is wrong is usually caught upon before it is a problem, although saying that they'd be more practical about cost effectiveness and would put something down instead of a £60 vet call out fee plus £60/hr?

Previous tennant of a block I rent says the wool paid his rent, fuel and machinery bill into the mid 70's then down hill from their, by the 90's paid for itself and since then it lots money.
He'd never seen a wool shedding sheep till I took over.

Lucky, or dad made our luck of almost all land in one ring fenced block, but no fancy prattley , 1350 lambing ewes, 230 suckler cows and followers 600 cattle in total, just put in for planning permission for new build farm house, me and mum and dad who are 80, adas or accorus report stated stock numbers and land work with acreage dictated 7 full time employees which included me mum and dad as 3??? Really. 4 full time employees here would be well over 100k wages, no wonder some lose money hand over foot, farming easy to an extent, same as any other business, minimise expenditure, maximise output, to a level you can achieve, if it doesn't realistically leave a margin then you are not going to make a go of it, but especially on a year like last year, you should be laughing with the margins surely?

Well 100 ewes scanning 200% and 0 losses for the year so selling 200 lambs at £200 each for sure you'll be making a cool £40,000 pure profit, dude.
