That's the Euro model - Claas have a special farmer's shift so they can be employed at the factorywhy shouldn't farms be part time ?
why should they ? if producing food is going to be an undervalued hobby, then f**k it, what's the point ? and is keeping livestock a part time job from the point of view of animal welfare ?why shouldn't farms be part time ?

I think it is particularly difficult in dairy as you need to know early on what family plans are. The level of investment needed on many dairy farms is high over a period of time so you need to plan it carefully over at least 20 or so years. You see it so often when dairy farms have terrible facilities all because family keep their options open and then when the son or daughter realise they do want to head home, the level of investment required is too high for banks to justify based on what the business can support with its current performance. Lots of good dairy farms of the 90s have ended up as fairly average beef/sheep farms in the 2010s because of this.
Depends on size of your farming business. If your farming only takes two hours a day is it really worth it?You live with your stock 24hrs a day?
2hrs check the stock and sort any problems, then off to work for 8hrs. Still leaves 14hrs a day for sleep and everything else.
I have some difficulty with being expected to provide the raw materials for the food industry at or below COP, then to have to go out to work on the side to earn my keep. Surprised anyone would think that was alright tbh.why shouldn't farms be part time ?
