Foot bathing ideas

I’m needing to get into foot bathing my suckler cows to keep there feet right. Currently my handling pens are away up the yard & race is heading up hill a bit so not handy for a foot bath sitting level. The sheds are the same with cubicles one side then they walk round to feed passage either end where the water troughs are . This is bit is about 7 x 7 raised . I’m thinking a foot bath built into this would be handy for once a week fill with water & stuff. Currently this area gets hand scraped every morning so would still need to be able to clean out so it’s not all sitting with slurry . Would this sort of thing work & how deep should it be ? I was thinking a steel tray made & bolted down or build blocks to hold water but not handy doing that now as cows in. Any ideas welcome

Do not use steel because whatever you bath with will eat it in no time, you want plastic, stainless or a concrete built bath.

If anyone is after a plastic footbath I’ve two brand new for sale like this.

I take it “7x7” is feet?

If so, it might be a bit short as you really need a minimum of each hoof going in to solution twice.

As an alternative, I have seen footbaths constructed around water troughs

Plastic is probably the simplest option, drag it out the way when not in use. But not the ones with big ridges in the bottom.
We’ve made one in a race with 6” blocks cut lengthways & rendered. Rounded the top with mortar so no sharp edges & increased the height slightly. But you need a decent drain & bung to clean it out.

This is what I’m thinking as it’s a similar set up, this is either end of shed as cows have to go onto it to get water or too get back too the beds but say I put a single row off blocks along to hold water it’s not going to be easy cleaned out off slurry every day ??

I suppose if I shutter a bit of concrete either side to hold water & shape the concrete so it’s easy to hand scrape over the ramp off it

Cows hate plastic ones. Mine is just a single row of (second hand) 6 inch blocks on their side on a levelish bit of concrete.

You want to aim for 10cm deep and 1 litre solution per cow. Mine is 3m x 2m so holds 600 litres when 10cm deep and we walk 500 and some cows through.
