We have taken on some more land, but won’t have much more stock this year, so plan to grow some winter feed. We normally house our cattle October / Nov time on bought in straw and Barley / conc and home grown silage.
Our hens go out at the end of the month so we will have 200T of dung available. We have sprayed off 10 acres for spring barley and then will follow this with swift or similar.
But also thinking about putting in another Forage crop, but am I right in thinking this is best direct drilled? If so we won’t be able to make use of the dung. Any ideas for winter crop to utilise hen dung?

That’s good to know, or would it work to power Harrow drill straight into it?
For 12 month old dairy x cattle would Kale be best to graze from sept - Christmas as it will hv highest protein?

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
