Picked up a 7a1 4100 last night. Appears to be mechanically sound and goes well enough, however some tin work needs attention and the front axle needs new bushings and bearings. I think for now I will will emote cab and put round mudguards off to give me a chance to collect the missing bits
Where is good for parts? Has anyone good things to say about mayhill tractors? They have the front grille for £20, which seems very cheap? Even cheaper than agriline. This is to be a working tractor so stuff doesn't need to be 100% but don't want total rubbish either

You like a project then ;)
Actually not as bad as it looks. We don't need a cab so it is coming off and we will be putting on round mudguards. Bonnet needs new bolts and the cowl needs a wee patch up and a new grill. Needs a quadrant lever, pick up hitch rods and a drawbar to sort backend out. Then 6.00x19 fronts to level her up and that will do for now. Until we start and dual her up or fit wide wheels to suit the wet ground.

Our 4600 had 7.5-16 on the front and 12.4 r36 on the back. The ones you are talking about sound too narrow? I’m sure it’s not as bad as it looks but I get very nervous whenever I see a scraper tractor ?

The brochure states that the 4100 had 6.00x19 and 12.4/13.6x36 as standard and 6.00x16 and 13.6x28 as options. Will double check that tomorrow. My 4600 was on 7.50x16 and 13.6x36 on the rear.
I was nervous when I first seen the pictures but glad i seen it :D

An uncle of mine bought a brand new Ford 4100 1st week of March 76. Same cab as yours. It was on 12.4 x 36 years and 6.00 x 19 fronts . And they werent ever level, even when on the standard tyres. If you dont want originality, I reckon the 7.50 x 16s will be same height . Are they hard to steer on 19s ?

Not sure if if hard to steer on 19s as this ia on 16s will maybe try the 7.50x16s off the 265 And see what it's like with them

if you are not worried about originality through a power steering kit at it, a man I bale for fitted it to his 2 4000 and says it made the biggest difference to them for work wise. he does everything with 2 ford 4000, I would be inclined to agree with him as they are the sort of kit that has a ram fitted to the side so can be removed I think easily if you want to

I think I know the kit you mean, we fitted one to our 3000 and it made a massive difference. I imagine down the line we will add it.

I agree. I never saw the point of the 4100. You want small there was the 3600 and medium was the 4600. I’ve done many hours on both and I reckon the 4600 was as small as you want to go and as a tractor it was superb at a lot of things. Great torque. Baled for years with its predecessor 4000 which I really liked.
