Hi Guys,

We have water coming from above the starter motor, located a core plug above the bell housing in the block, is there anymore behind the fly wheel.
Based on a Ford 4000 I believe.
Thx.

I think I’m right in saying that the 3 cyl has one behind the back plate but the 4cyl doesn’t. Sure I put one in a 3910 or 4110 or similar. You have to split it and remove flywheel and back plate

Unfortunately yes!!! Found the photo. Was a 3910 this one but sure it was leaking into bell housing though

Decide to go for it and split the engine and trans.
Plan is to remove the front loader, capping off the hydraulic pipes and move it to another area to work on.

Once the front loader is removed will the rear back hoe still operate just to lower it to supports the trans. ?

Not familiar with a 4550 but do you need to remove loader? Won’t it split with boom in the air with bucket removed?
yes it will. we did the torque convertor on one and swopped the engine at a later date. don't ask me how to do it, it was a long time ago and my memory isn't what it used to be.

550 onwards were easy, bucket off, jacks and rear backhoe on floor. Front boom right up and propped with a strong angle iron on the ram. Bonnet and fuel tank off, drain hydraulic oil from front tank. Remove the large chassis bolts above front axle then split at bell housing and wheel engine and axle forward

Thinking while we have access get it done too.

Hi Guys,

Plan to make a start next week.

Any idea on freeze plugs sizes, so I can pre order them.

Also clutch friction plate size type??

Update.

Replacing pistons, rings, big end bearings, clutch, all freeze plugs.

Anyone know the thread size of the cylinder head bolts need to buy a tap to clean them out? Metric guy here. 😂

Torques specs for…
Cylinder head bolts.
Big end bolts.

Best,

Davey.
