As said solenoid is in drop box with a wire going into it. It's live to hold 4wd off therefore check for a feed with the switch off. If you have a feed it's solenoid or pack seals trouble. Most probably be wiring issue though

Hi, I have a 7610, and it doesn't seem to disconnect the 4wd all the time, was moving soil the other day, and when front wheels off the ground, they were still spinning when I lifted the clutch pedal, but switch was set to 2wd. Also have a horrendous whine on the road when flat out and am wondering if these issues are connected??

Check if dual power is working as 4 w/d is on same fuse no 3 [15a], stop lights on fuse 13, as stated if fuse has gone check by disconnecting dual power or 4 w/d and see if fuse blows again wiring can get damaged to either one or dual power solenoid can burn out 4 w/d solenoid rarely
burns out... D-J yours could be same but most of these drop boxes will transmit a small amount of power to front axle even when everything is working normally and only real way to see if 4 w/.d is operating is to use in a wet [not at moment ] field, or if you have a loaded trailer and on dry surface engaging 4 w/d will produce a louder whine..

Dual power is working fine, it maybe like you said that 4wd is just transmitting a small amount to front axle. What else could the whine on the road be?

This may not be same as your one as it depends what apl number f/a you have, plate is on right side of axle but it will be behind sq cover as item 7, if you get someone to turn on ign and switch on 4 w/d you should hear a click from solenoid you can also remove it and bench test earth to body and 12v live to terminals and observe movement of internal spool in between slots of valve land, be prepared for some oil loss, if you don't hear a click at first check you have 12v feed on terminal wire is fed through a metal tube.

No should not empty rear end but if you use clean can and wipe around cover it can go back, it should only take a few minutes to check...

OK, solenoid checked, couldn't hear it working from outside, so pulled it out, stuffed a rag in the hole, and tested it with a probe, could hear a very quiet muffled noise, and could just see something working, so gave it a clean with brake cleaner and could hear it better after that, tested the voltage and had 12.3v on the wire, but connection was a tad loose so tightened the crimps a bit and refitted. Haven't road tested it yet, as I had to fix the air seat. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

After a road test I still have the rear axle whine? What else could it be, as its bloody loud, I can't even drown it out with the radio
