Just been out to check calving cows (outside) to find a cow bleeding from her back end first thought was calf will be dead brought her into the calving box to help her,only to find that a fox had bitten her and chewed one of the calf’s front feet and made a right mess of it calf is alive thank goodness just wondering if anyone else has experienced this

Sorry to read that.
We have plenty of foxes around here (certainly problem for sheep farmers), it would have to be a very brave Fox to go anywhere near one of our new limmi mums!
Our digs are around the cows all the time and the cows never mind at all... except the days after calving, the dogs get chased off very quick if the get anywhere near a new calf

Snap weve just twigged one on camera in calving shed :banghead: pretty sure cows would square it up, its not getting a chance to do out though 🔫

yes seen one not mine , calf head only stuck the cow was exhausted the calfs face was chewwed off, also seen foxes circle calving cows I think they are waiting for the cleanse , magpies and crows will pick out birthing cows and ewes also

I worked on a farm where foxes seemed to specialise in removing lambs tails. Virtually every morning we would find lambs with blood just where the tail should be, whole tail gone. A very keen fox lamper took out plenty of the red devils but the phenomenon kept up for several years.
