Galvanising questions

Fistly how much does it roughly cost and secondly can something be re-galvanised? I made some gate type things a few years ago and used some second hand steel, some of which was galvanised. I have now perfected these for what they need to do and would like to galvanise them as they wont last long in cow muck. cheers Items are approx. 15ft by 9ft and weigh about 150kg.

up here about 400 pounds per ton weighed after treatment, do not think galvanized would affect it,but painted items are more expensive

Worksop Galv, Wedge at Chesterfield or Premier all offer a service you could use. There is also a Galv firm in Stoke too but their name escapes me. As it has some existing Galv they will have to soak it in flux to take the existing Galv off then pickel it prior to regalving. It won't be cheap but well worth it if your system has been perfected.

sent some stuff ( elec fence corner posts we have made copying the Rappa design) today - min was 15kgs and think that was a £4 /kg- will check tomorrow

3 day turn around, no need for any prep as they acid dip pre dipping

much cheaper than painting if you cost material and time and then doing that every 5 years and much better

Wow. That's cheap, talking £600/ton in South Wales for small stuff. When holes have been drilled for pins, how much oversize do u need to allow for galv? (Hope that makes sense)

Do you not find that a bit loose? What thickness is the galv then? Got some 16 mm holes to drill for hinges. That would mean 20mm hole which seems a bit big.

if you drilling holes for bolts we use 19mm for m16 bolts and 23 mm for m20 bolts that is 1mm extra the 4mm i quoted above is for a sliding bolt ect where both parts are assembled so both bits picking zinc up if that helps

Boggy.
I find that the galv always blobs around pin holes etc, so usually drill them after, so you get a nice round hole it slides in properly.
Use wedge galvanising too. think last lot was about 60 p /kg IIRC.
Make sure you drill all the internal holes for venting. Once I took some in and saw some that had exploded because some R Sole hadn't drilled it right. Nasty.
