German Farmers Take to the Streets--in their Tractors

Farmers clogged Berlin streets with their tractors on Monday, honking their horns in protest at a plan to scrap tax breaks on the diesel they use, the climax of a week of protests that has tapped into wider discontent with Germany’s government.

Columns of tractors rolled into the capital ahead of the demonstration at the landmark Brandenburg Gate. Over the past week, farmers have blocked highway entrances and slowed traffic across Germany with their protests, intent on pushing Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government to abandon the planned cuts entirely.

I've never seen farmers take such action.
I don't know much about German politics but it doesn't seem like a good idea to tax (punish) anything agriculture related. the world needs more food, not less, and any producers should be encouraged.

This week began and ended with the long road in front of Berlin’s landmark Brandenburg Gate thronged by heavy vehicles tooting their horns in protest — farmers on Monday and truckers on Friday.

Such demonstrations underline deep frustration in Germany with Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government, which came to power just over two years ago with a progressive, modernizing agenda but has come to be viewed by many as dysfunctional and incapable.

It is struggling to juggle multiple crises and reconcile lofty aims, such as transforming Europe’s biggest economy to meet climate targets and investing in neglected infrastructure while also meeting Germany’s tight self-imposed rules on running up debt.

yes, let's tax our working class to death to deal with Climate Change.
go farmers (and truckers). I hope your government will appreciate your value and work with you.

The continental protests are about far more than red diesel rebate cuts

Agriculture is being vilified for causing climate change. Legislation is being written that will, and indeed already has caused sweeping changes to agriculture (government ministers in Holland were forced to resign, but the farmers still got f**ked)

"Green" agendas based upon false, fake, and misleading science are being used to hide the actual source of pollution from the petrochemical industries

Ultra processed "food" manufactured from imported ingredients is being promoted to replace home produce

Livelihoods and futures are being wiped out for a short term political gain by politicians, and continued mind boggling profits from pollution for the oil companies

Yet the media report the massive protests are about red fuel rebates? 🤔

Then someone needs to share their manifesto/ list of demands , because all I have read on the various threads is 'cheaper diesel'.
Perhaps the protest organisers need to better publicise their grievances over planned subsidy cuts, and changes in enviromental policy? The straw of red diesel that broke their backs seems somewhat paltry and petty for the size of the reaction
