We did put some envirobed down. But I think your idea is better. I will get some.My first responce to a cow that is stugging to get up is always a bucket of coarse sand to increase grip and give her time.
Sometimes put shackels on while they are down.
Always have a dumpy bag of sand handy.

Our lady is 8th lactation and had a calcium boils post calving.Keep our 3rd lactation and up cows out of the parlour for an extra day now, and didn't have anything go down in the parlour or cubicle shed with milk fever during the housing period.
Sheets of reasonably thin ply, bung holes near the corner with the holesaw/shotgun....
